Location

  • Address: Naavatie 3, Kemijärvi
  • When you see the fell and the ski resort on left side, turn right and drive Suomukankaantie about 1 kilometer, turn right to Naavatie and the cottage is the second one, on the left, on top of the hill
  • Depending on the snow situation, it might be tricky to drive a car to the yard, because the hill is rather steep. If so, you can leave the car to the lower parking area (only 50 meters away from the yard).

Door and keys

  • You will receive a 6 digit code for the smart lock, enter it and confirm by pressing the button with an open lock to open the door.
  • The key for the shed is hanging on the wall in the hallway.

Wifi

  • Login information will be sent you directly

Entertainment

  • Apple TV: You can stream music and movies from your phone, first time you need to give a passcode which you will see from the TV when you choose HDMI2 as a source.
  • Google Chromecast
  • Soundbar (choose between using only TV audio or only soundbar, otherwise the voice is little out of sync).

Dressing room next to the Bathroom

  • Laundry detergents are in the box above the washing machine.
  • Before using the washing machine, make sure the water is open, you’ll find the valve from the toilet across the wall, the small valve in the water tap.
  • Potty, baby bath (if requested, otherwise stored in the shed)

Sauna

  • The sauna is wood-heated, which in Finland is considered as better option compared to electric ones
  • Before making a fire to the heater, a smoke damper over the heater has to be opened by pulling the handle
  • Don’t close the damper before the light has fully burnt out
  • When beginning to heat up the sauna, open the ash tray at the bottom of the heater (if the sauna gets too hot, you may close the ash tray to reduce the air flow)
  • It takes about 45 minutes to heat up, add fire wood regularly during the heating and when using the sauna.
  • Fire starters and matches are in the dressing room drawers.
  • Sauna scents: add few drops to scoop of water and throw to the stones

Hot tube

  • ATTENTION: Fill the pool before lighting a fire. Lighting a fire before filling the pool leads always the stove to break. Charge of a new stove 960 € + delivery and installations.
  • Heating up takes about 3 – 5 hours, remember to add more firewood regularly and keep the lid on the pool, it speeds up the heating.
  • Add two spoons of chlorine ( “Shokkikloori”, you’ll find it from the terrace), after bathing, it disinfects the water so you can use same water multiple times.
  • Close the lid after bathing, the water keeps warm and you can enjoy the tube also next day with minimal additional heating.
Water post, the hose is kept in the dressing room at winter time.
Drain valve, the plug is kept in the dressing room drawers. Turn the red loop clockwise to tighten it, make sure the water keeps in.
Do not begin heating before the stove is under water, the pipe marked here is visible at the other side, you can begin heating when the pipe is 5 cm under water.
From these valves in the toilet you can adjust the water temperature so you can take partly warm water to speed up the heating. Note that the tub takes 1500 l water and the hot water boiler is only 300 l so if it gets empty it takes few hours to get warm water again.

Additional Electric Heater for Hot Tub

  • Optional to use, intended for keeping the water warm, not for heating up (it would take multiple days to get the water warm only by the electric heater)
  • Use an extension cord (and the socket) from the shed. The use of a residual current device is mandatory, you will find it attached to the extension cord.
  • Keep the lid always on, when heating with electric.
  • Never use the heater with maximum temperature (halfway is enough).
Always use the residual current device / fault current protection. You will find it attached with the extension cord from the shed.

Grill

  • Make sure all taps are in the OFF position by turning them clockwise
  • Open the gas tap from the bottle
  • Turn on the taps by turning them counterclockwise
  • Do not leave all taps at full power if the lid is closed
  • The faucet marked in red in the picture and the piezo lighter are for the side cooker on the left. If you want to use the side cooker, lift the cover open before lighting it.
  • Turn off the gas tap by closing the gas tap, then turn the other taps to the OFF position by turning them clockwise.

Firewood

  • You’ll find more firewood from the shed or from the sheds outer walls.

Candles and outdoor fires

  • Burning candles and outdoor fires is allowed, but it is not encouraged in rental cottages, so there are no candles or outdoor fires on the premises.
  • Outdoor fires must not be lit on the terrace or on other burning surface.

Fireplace

  • Before making a fire, make sure the right smoke damper (located over the fireplace) is open, by pulling it.
  • Fire starters and matches are in the dressing room drawers

Heating

  • Air conditioning machine in the living room is the main source of heat, remote control for adjusting the temperature is on the table. Please, do not turn off the heating machine at winter time.
  • Radiators in the master bedroom, you may adjust them if you feel cold. Don’t put clothes over them, they can get extremely hot.
  • If you are not satisfied with the temperature, please contact me so I can adjust it remotely.

  • Cannot be seen during summer time, when the sun doesn’t set.
  • You can follow the space weather here Auroras Now
  • Auroras can be seen only when the sky is clear from the clouds, local weather see Weather in Suomu
  • In Finnish, northern lights are called Revontulet which translates to “Fox’s flames”, even thou The Fox Hill Chalet is great place to see the auroras, the best place to watch them is where there is no artificial lights, up the fell or otherwise open area where trees are not blocking the view. You might try to walk up the Suomutunturi fell, from Itä-Suomu, left side from the slopes or drive to the Kemijärvi lake where on winter you can drive through the ice road on the lake surface.
